Bought this for my daughter's 16th birthday.
She thinks it's"Really good".
Doesn't come with a protective case, so view screen gets a bit smudgy with fingerprints and pocket lint.
Wonderful first time camera.

A little bargain!

What an amazing little camera! Perhaps not the"smallest" compact camera out there's enough to play with to make up for it. The 3" screen is really nice, photos are clear and previewing them is even better (my previous camera had a 1" screen!) There are so many settings to tweak so any budding photgraphers can begin experimenting without lugging round an expensive SLR - a read of the manual is a good idea to get to know the camera but then your off'n'laughing. The 5x optical zoom is a useful feature, more than most others out there as too is the super macro setting. Recording a video(+ sound)is easy gives good results although you can't adjust the zoom whilst recording (a shame when given the 5x zoom). Onboard memory is a good start but recommend buying a larger memory card - charger, USB + AVout cables, Strap all in the box but no case; a must if you want to keep the screen scratch free.
Overall a really good pocket friendly camera, enough to keep you experimenting and at a really good price.[...]

Nice little compact camera

Nice camera, quite funky looking and its very portable, not to bulging in the pocket. Although the only problem i seem to be having is that the face detection only detects one face out of like 6 people for example, but its not something i use to often anyway. And also i find sometimes the pictures tend to be a bit out of focus, but only in low light, so its somewhat understandable. All in all, its a good camera if your looking to take it out on nights out and festival events, but if your into arty type photography, go for a Canon or Nikon, as it lets you down when you want to do something fancy.

very handy cam

I've been a longtime user of Fujifilm cameras and this was an upgrade after I gave the previous one to my wife. It combines point and shoot on the Auto setting plus all the other possibilities that an SLR might offer.

Regarding picture quality: at first I worried that there was a focusing error because in some images the extreme right-hand side of the frame tended to blur slightly but I am relieved that this was due to camera shake (the camera is sensitive to this) rather than an internal defect. In Standard picture quality mode the images tend to err on the colorless side; this is easily rectified by switching to Chrome. Read the manual and take note of the designer's recommendation in this respect.

The camera comes with a battery charger: you remove the battery from the camera to recharge. You cannot recharge by plugging into the camera. When shooting away from a power supply I have needed to carry spare batteries. These are neither cheap nor universally available. If you are using the camera to take complicated shots that require a lot of processor use, the battery runs down faster than is acceptable, I think.

What is really in it's favour is that it is truly a pocket camera. You can lug this around in a rucksack pocket for days without noticing it's there. The battery stays charged for months at a time.

Brilliant value camera

Had been using a Minolta SLR, and then bought this camera as got fed up with lugging it around and paying for getting pictures developed. If you want an affordable camera that takes great pictures & is easy to use then this is ideal. Would definately upgrade to another Fuji as this is reliable, works well with rechargeable AA batteries and has been a great little camera in the 2 years I've had it.

Great for Photographing Text

I purchased one of these last year from Amazon - it is excellent. I am no photographer - but this one takes excellent photos of printed text which is useful for research projects. Also good at landscapes, buildings, gravestones, plants - I rarely take shots of real live humans! The definition is superb, the power useage is very good - and it is inconspicuous in use. And at this low price... go for it. I am thinking of buying one for my grandson.

ok for party snaps

I'm usually a great fan of Fuji but I wasn't that impressed and have decided to buy something different. If you're only using it for parties and snapshots, it's great. Solid, lightweight, functional and packed full of gadgets and gizmos...not to mention very pretty! If, however, you're after something a bit more serious, you can get a lot better for less.

In darker conditions, without flash, there is a lot of noise on the images. The shake control makes no differene. In fact, even in bright daylight, the camera manages to blur pictures. Internal lenses aren't a great idea anyway. The flash isn't as intelligent as it claims to be - there was far too much bleaching of subjects.

Overall, good for nights out but not for much more.

A gem of a camera

I was after a point and shoot camera for my wife, which would be easy to
use and take good pictures.
The reviews of the F20 were excellent and the camera has been a revelation.
Intuitively it is very easy to use. The resulting photos are stunning.
It easily beats my Canon Ixus 400, which was three times the cost.
My serious camera is a Nikon digital SLR and I'm very tempted to replace
my portable Ixus with an F20, it's that good for portability and results.
It's ability to shoot in low light is superb and I can testify that its
flash results are some of the most natural shots I've seen.
At this price (£99) you get a sturdy feeling camera (not plastic like
many at this price point) which is a joy to use and produces great
results.

Poor night quality

I bought this camera on the basis that it was simple to use and good for someone whose photos aren't always the steadiest i.e. because of the double anti-blur function. However while the daylight photos are fantastic, night shots or any taken using the"party" or"night" modes do not give the same result, which is very disappointing.

On the plus side, it really is only slightly bigger than a mobile phone and consequently fits handily into any purse or bag - perfect for parties, weddings etc. And the zoom function is great (but again, really only in clear daylight - night shots can be problematic).

On the whole, I'd recommend it, but not if you tend to be a night-time photographer!

Compact, light, great zoom lens and records HD movies too; but pushbutton zoom control is jerky

I bought my S2000HD as an upgrade from an S5000 which I have happily used for tasks varying from family snaps to geological fieldwork. If you are a fan of Fuji's almost-but-not-quite-SLR digital cameras then you will feel at home with the S2000HD. It retains all the upsides: smaller and lighter than a DSLR, great lenses, no dust, great photos and a good price.

The S2000HD also has 3 killer features that made me upgrade.
1) Image stabilisation
2) Records movies in HD resolution and allows me to zoom while recording
3) 15x optical zoom

But there are flaws, most notably

1) The zoom is controlled by a push-button style control which is very jerky.
2) The lens has a push-fit cover, instead of a threaded rim. I think this means I will be unable to fit a UV lens filter.

If you don't think you can live with these limitations and you are willing to spend double the money then have a look at the S100fs. If you don't want to spend that much and you don't mind having last-year's model (with no image stabilisation, less zoom and lower res movies) then see if you can find a heavily-discounted S9600.

I love this camera!

I really do! My sister gave me her old Fujifilm camera when she got this one (in a different colour) and it was like a brick- so naturally I wanted one like hers, and I'm so glad I bought it. Best £100 I've spent in ages.

The camera takes a fantastic picture, and uses software that locates faces and modifies the light around them to improve picture quality and remove red eye. The finish is great- it's polished and feels smooth in your hands. The camera turns on by sliding open the lens and the whole thing is as easy to use as that.

Other than the colour and the metallic finish, what I really like is the battery. No more hunting around for triple AAA's, this camera includes a battery more like you would have in your mobile phone, which you remove to charge separately.

The camera comes with everything you need- the right leads and cables, a wrist tag to hold it with- except a case. You'll want one to stop it getting scratched up. The only other thing you might need is a memory card, but it does already have internal memory, so it really depends on how much space you need.

All in all a great looking camera, easy to use, fantastic picture, and a price you can't argue with! Five stars.
