You'll get fine pics from the Finepix

A very nice little camera for the money. The various modes are easy to access, although you can just let the camera select everything on 'auto' if you prefer. Picture quality is good at the higher resolutions, it's possible to zoom in quite tightly on images before you see much evidence of pixillation. Ideal if you want a straightforward point-and-shoot camera.

Brilliant camera

Originally, I had hoped to buy a digital SLR. I went to Jessops to some research and the assistant told me £300 for the lens I wanted, and £500 for the camera body! Way too rich. Then he showed me the S8100. This is such a versatile camera. It does almost anything an SLR can within the limitations of its lens. I wanted a camera that allowed me close ups. It does macro to 1cm. I have taken some amazing shots of a dragonfly, bees, hoverflies, flowers etc. I have taken shots at full zoom (18x) without a tripod and the results have been excellent.
I also wanted a camera that could take rapid pictures. My previous camera was so slow, that by the time it took the picture, the action was gone. Depending on your image quality setting this will rapidly rattle through a series of frames.
An added bonus is video with sound!
The expanded manual comes on CD. There are many features that allow the operator to control shutter speed, the ISO settings and other stuff I haven't even started considering yet.
It certainly does everything I want. It does need an expanded memory card. I use a 2GB and that gives over 800 shots at 10MP.
The Finepix viewer (ver.5.4) has expanded features over my previous version. It downloads quickly and gives more options for viewing folders.
If you are in the market for a state of the art compact camera, look no further.

A tight fit

I bought this item as a natural accompaniment to my Finepix S8000fd. The basic quality is fine, and it has its own very substantial shoulder strap attached. The one criticism I have is that it is too tight a fit if you leave the camera's own shoulder strap attached (and I can't imagine many people would want to remove the camera's own strap). I use the case because I don't like leaving the camera unprotected. However, every time I put the camera back in its case, I struggle to fold / screw up / persuade the camera strap into a sufficiently small package to allow me to zip the case closed. A little more space would have been good.

USB 2.0 and works on Windows 98!

If you've wasted money on other usb 2.0 drives that claim to work on Windows 98 but instead just lock up your computer or ignore you altogether (Buffalo, Kingston, etc. - it's been an expensive quest ....) then look no further. With this Fuji drive I simply downloaded the driver from the net, followed the instructions, rebooted and it worked first time! Kind of stylish looking, seems to have a good transfer speed, and functions without any problems at all. I'm sure it'll keep going way past those Windows 98 10 year anniversary celebrations Microsoft are surely organising ........

FUJI =FUN

A* for appearance. Stylish, good looking camera that takes superb photos.
The controls are clear and easy to use, even with arthritic fingers.
The accompanying book is well written, giving lots of clear advice.
The accompanying software is also very useful, the Finepix Viewer suite has lots of useful features for the beginner.
Fuji has an excellent reputation. The A900 and the access to the fuji website are proof that this is well deserved.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this camera to anyone who wants a reasonably priced, quality camera.

Macro problems

Because of the shrouding around the lens/flash, I have found it impossible to use the camera in close macro mode without getting a large shadow on the bottom left half of the photo. You will need the external strobe if you want to take pictures close up, more expense & unnecessary complication than I had with the F700.

Excellent Cable.

Can't really say anything bad about this cable, it has worked since the day i have started using it. Never had any trouble with it, this cable is for my digital camera, and has never given me or my camera any grief. Well that's about it.

WOW very quick

fuji 1gb memory card

this is a great card by a good make. I would recommend it over the other cards because it is by a recognisable brand and is worth the extra £8 as a guarantee that it will work

Disgusted

I am very unhappy with the item i have just received in the post- not only does it not look anything like the picture it looks cheap and tacky. I called the company that sells it only to be told it is correct and i will have to pay to send it back! (only using a first class stamp even though it cost me nearly £5 to get it delivered AND the postman thought it would be ok to leave it outside the door at an industrial estate!!)

Unless you want tack DONT BUY this item!

Still not as pictured

The item I received doesn't resemble the picture currently showing...there is no writing on the front as pictured.
